Lecture in Chicago: "Great King Hartapu and Beyond" and the Türkmen-Karahöyük Excavations

The University of Chicago's ISAC presents "Great King Hartapu and Beyond: Türkmen-Karahöyük and the Bronze and Iron Age Context of an Iron Age Ruler," a lecture by James Osborne, Associate Professor of Anatolian Archaeology and curator of the special exhibition "Hartapu: The Forgotten King of Anatolia." Known since the early 20th century only from isolated landscape monuments, Hartapu came back into focus in 2019 with the discovery at Türkmen-Karahöyük of an inscription describing his conquest of Phrygia and 13 other local kingdoms. In part thanks to that discovery, ISAC and Bilkent University launched the Türkmen-Karahöyük Archaeological Project in 2024.
