1. Find your state's driver's license agency

Find your state's DMV or similar agency in the USA.gov state list.

Prepare for the application

  • Find your state's DMV or similar agency in the USA.gov state list.usa.gov(Official site)
  • Prepare identification, your SSN, two documents showing your state address, and a document showing your lawful status in the USA.
  • Complete the application and pay the fee required by your state.

Complete the tests

  • Complete the vision test as part of your state driver's license application.
  • Take your state's knowledge test and meet the required passing standard.
  • Complete the 5-hour Pre-Licensing Course required for most drivers in New York.
  • Attend your road test appointment in a registered, inspected, and insured vehicle.

Get your driver's license

  • After passing the road test in New York, give your Turkish license to the examiner.dmv.ny.gov(Official site)
  • If you were given a temporary document, wait for your card to arrive by mail.
