Before leaving
- Check whether you need a green card, valid visa, reentry permit, travel authorization, or TPS travel document.
- You generally need to obtain the travel document before leaving the U.S.; the document does not guarantee admission.
- If you are a green card holder and will stay for 1 year or longer, apply on Form I-131; be in the U.S. when applying and attending biometrics.
- People with pending I-485 applications who qualify should apply for advance parole on Form I-131 and check the fee rules.
- If you need to leave in less than 15 days, call the Contact Center or request an appointment through My Appointment.
- Separately from your visa expiration, check the I-94 date or the D/S notation; F-1 students should speak with their DSO.
- If you are carrying more than $10,000 in cash and monetary instruments, report it to CBP using FinCEN Form 105.
- After entering the U.S., check that your admission class and authorized-stay end date are correct.
