Arrival and enrollment
- Check that your name and date of birth match your passport; if there is an error, ask the DSO for a correction.
- You and the DSO should sign the form; keep the I-20 in your carry-on luggage when entering the country.
- Contact the DSO immediately after entering the United States and no later than the program start date when you arrive at the school.
- After entering the United States, check your I-94 record through the relevant official inquiry website.i94.cbp.dhs.gov(Official site)
Maintaining status
- Take a full course load every term; obtain the DSO's approval before dropping a class or reducing your load.
- Report an address or name change within 10 days; consult the DSO first about program, major, transfer, and travel matters.
- Obtain the required permissions before on-campus employment, CPT, or OPT, and report employer information during the OPT period.
- If your program will not be completed by the end date on your I-20, request an extension from the DSO before that date.
- If you have lost status, file Form I-539 with USCIS using the new I-20 recommended by the DSO.
