Conditional green card and removing the condition: checklist

Complete the Form I-751 process by checking your conditional status, filing period, and required documents.

0/7 steps done
YOUR NEXT STEP

1. Check your card's expiration date

For a joint marriage-based application, determine the beginning of the 90-day window based on the Card Expires date on your card.

Prepare your application

  • For a joint marriage-based application, determine the beginning of the 90-day window based on the Card Expires date on your card.
  • Apply jointly with your spouse, or consider applying individually if one of the situations involving death, divorce, abuse, or extreme hardship applies.
  • Prepare Form I-751, copies of your cards, evidence of a good-faith marriage, and any additional documents if needed.
  • Use the current form edition; for a joint application, make sure your spouse also signs it.
  • Submit the application online or to the applicable USCIS lockbox address based on your state.

After filing

  • Keep the I-797 receipt notice together with your expired card as proof of status and work authorization.
  • If you receive a biometrics or interview notice, complete the required steps and track the application using the receipt number.
