The rules for visitors, students, or temporary workers differ from those for citizens and green card holders.

Before setting out

  • The rules for visitors, students, or temporary workers differ from those for citizens and green card holders.
  • Prescription medicine should be prescribed in your name and, if possible, carried in its original packaging.
  • A valid prescription or doctor's letter in English should state your condition and why you need the medicine.
  • The general guideline is a maximum 90-day supply; for longer stays, check the rules for having additional medicine sent.
  • Tell the customs officer that the medicine is for your own use and provide the required trade or chemical information.
  • You may carry medically necessary liquid, gel, and aerosol medicines in reasonable quantities in your carry-on baggage and notify the officer.
