Getting started and applying
- Determine whom you can bring and your category based on your U.S. citizenship, green card status, or temporary visa status.
- In preference categories, file an I-130 for the principal applicant; for immediate relatives, a separate I-130 is required for each person.
- In preference categories, compare the date the I-130 was filed with the Final Action Date in the Visa Bulletin.
- If you meet the requirements, people adjusting status in the United States file an I-824; those who received visas abroad write to the NVC.
- Check your USCIS case status using your receipt number and check processing times with the USCIS processing-times tool.egov.uscis.gov(Official site)
- Contact the NVC through its inquiry form during the visa stage of an approved petition; upload documents and make payments through CEAC.
