Find help
- Search for organizations and attorneys offering free services through the EOIR Pro Bono portal and the find legal representation page.
- Verify accredited representatives and recognized organizations using the state-by-state R&A lists.
Verify the representative
- View the license document and verify it with the authority in the state where the attorney is licensed.
- Check whether the attorney or representative appears on the EOIR disciplinary list.
- Confirm that Form G-28 was filed for USCIS matters, Form EOIR-28 for court matters, and that you also signed it.
- Obtain and keep copies of the forms prepared for you, official correspondence, and receipts for every payment made.
Protect yourself from fraud
- Do not sign blank forms or forms containing incorrect information; know that official forms are free.
- Know that notaries cannot provide legal services; do not pay for promises of guaranteed results or government connections.
Change or end representation
- Send written notice to USCIS; you can also complete this process through your USCIS online account.
- Have your new attorney file their own Form G-28.
File a complaint if necessary
- Contact the attorney’s state bar, the DHS Office of Disciplinary Counsel for USCIS matters, or EOIR for court matters.
- Report notarios, fraudulent consultants, or unauthorized representation to the EOIR Fraud and Abuse Prevention Program.
