New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has launched a special ticket distribution system for residents for the World Cup matches hosted by New York and New Jersey. Mamdani announced that 1,000 tickets will be given away by raffle for $50 each. These tickets will be valid for residents aged over 15 living in the five boroughs of New York. Participants can apply for the raffle once a day. The tickets are allocated for five group stage matches and two knockout round matches. The raffle will start on May 25 and end on May 30. Winners will be announced on June 3 and will collect their tickets from the bus departure point. Additionally, free round-trip bus service to MetLife Stadium in New Jersey will be provided for the winners. At a press conference held in the Little Senegal area of Harlem, Mamdani stated that this initiative aims especially to enable working-class New Yorkers to attend the tournament. Event officials and players from the US national team also participated in the event. This initiative came in response to high fare complaints for transportation to the matches. While New Jersey Transit has reduced train ticket prices, bus fares remain high.
