It has been reported that sailors serving on US military ships in the Middle East are facing shortages of food and basic necessities due to the Iran war, and families have expressed their concerns about this situation. The US Postal Service has suspended the delivery of packages sent to 27 military postal codes in the region for an indefinite period due to airspace closures and logistical problems. This situation prevents soldiers from accessing morale and supply packages.
Families have stated that soldiers serving on the ships are experiencing food shortages and are sending packages containing food, hygiene products, and personal care items to support them. However, most of these packages have not yet reached the soldiers. For example, it was reported that soldiers serving on the USS Tripoli and USS Abraham Lincoln ships informed their families about the inadequacy of meals and the lack of hygiene products.
US Army spokesperson Maj. Travis Shaw stated that the suspension of mail deliveries is due to war conditions and airspace closures in the region, and deliveries will only resume when the airspace is opened and the logistical situation is suitable. He also mentioned that military mail packages are not returned to the sender but are kept in secure facilities until delivery is possible.
The Pentagon has not made an official statement regarding the pause in postal services and the food shortages on the ships. It was also reported that the USS Gerald Ford aircraft carrier, which has been on long-term duty, is facing maintenance and technical problems.
Experts state that war and operational conditions can cause delays in military postal services, but such a comprehensive suspension is rare. The US Postal Service emphasizes that military postal services operate in 76 countries worldwide and that such situations require complex logistical processes.
