Vangelis Liolios, president of the Hellenic Basketball Federation, has been detained along with five other people, including referees, on charges of match-fixing, illegal betting and bribery, Greek media reported on Wednesday.
According to the reports, Athens prosecutor Apostolis Grammenos found evidence of match-fixing and illegal betting in top-division games during a three-month investigation.

Grammenos requested that Liolios be remanded in custody, citing a risk that he could flee. Detention orders were also issued for five others.
Liolios has led the federation since September 2021. Under Greek sports law, he would have to step down as federation president once the charges against him are formally served.
