United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres addressed the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, focusing on the war in Gaza, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the future of the two-state solution.

Guterres said the scale of death and destruction in Gaza was unlike anything he had witnessed during his tenure as UN Secretary-General, drawing attention to the devastating impact of the conflict on civilians.

He also renewed his call for a political solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, stressing that the international community must not allow the prospect of a two-state solution to disappear.
The UN chief emphasized the need for humanitarian aid to reach civilians in Gaza without obstruction and also raised concerns about developments in the West Bank. He reiterated his support for a future in which Israel and Palestine exist as two states living side by side in peace and security.
