Games showcasing humanoid robots' sports and everyday work skills have begun in Beijing, the capital of China. This year, 666 teams are competing in 51 events with 2,056 robots they developed.
The event is being organized through cooperation between the Beijing Municipal People's Government, China Media Group, the World Robot Collaboration Organization and the RoboCup Asia-Pacific International Council. Robotics companies, universities, research institutes, robot clubs and enthusiasts from different countries are taking part in the event.
Sports and skills courses
At the games, which will continue through August 26, robots are competing in the 400-meter and 1,500-meter races, long jump, gymnastics, 3-a-side and 5-a-side football, table tennis and kickboxing.
Alongside sporting events, the competition program includes practical tasks such as restaurant service, emergency response, charging, block stacking, drill operation and granule sorting. These scenarios aim to showcase practical applications of humanoid robot technology.
Participation expands in two years
At the games' first edition in 2025, 250 teams competed with 500 robots in 26 events. This year's increase in the number of teams, robots and events has expanded the scope of the competition.
