Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh stated in an interview with Al Jazeera Arabic that Iran is ready to advance within the framework of the agreement with the United States.
Khatibzadeh said, "If the other side shows the same seriousness, we are ready to move forward step by step."
Response to Israeli attacks
Khatibzadeh condemned Israel's recent attacks on southern Lebanon, saying Israel's "ongoing war efforts" would have "serious and urgent consequences."
Stating that Iran seeks "peace on all fronts, including Gaza," Khatibzadeh explained that Lebanon was included in the Memorandum of Understanding due to its direct connection to the conflict.
Articles of the Memorandum of Understanding
Article 1 of the Memorandum of Understanding clearly states that ending the war in Lebanon is an integral part of the broader ceasefire arrangement on all fronts.
Khatibzadeh said, "There will be no peace or stability in Lebanon and the region without an end to the occupation and Israel's commitment to international law."
Strait of Hormuz and frozen funds
Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, Khatibzadeh said Iran would continue to provide navigation services in coordination with Oman and in accordance with international law.
He noted that no transit fees would be applied during the 60-day period envisaged in the agreement, adding that a new mechanism to manage the waterway would be introduced and presented to regional countries afterwards.
Khatibzadeh also stressed that any future agreement must include the release of all of Iran's frozen funds.
