Visa process remains uncertain
Mehdi Taj, President of the Iran Football Federation, said that players are expected to receive their Mexican visas on Tuesday or Wednesday, after which the US visa could be issued quickly. However, it is not yet clear whether the visas have been definitively obtained by that time.
Taj also stated that the team’s transition to the US was previously planned through Mexico. It was noted that the tension following the war has complicated the US visa process, influencing this change.
Challenging schedule in the tournament
The 2026 World Cup will start on June 11 and continue until July 19. In the tournament jointly organized by the US, Mexico, and Canada, Iran is in Group G.
In the group stage, Iran will face New Zealand in Los Angeles on June 15 and Belgium on June 21. The team’s third match will be against Egypt in Seattle on June 26.
Before heading to Mexico, the delegation will also play a preparation match against Mali in Antalya. Iran had defeated Gambia 3-1 on May 29.
