The Jordanian army announced that eight missiles coming from Iran were successfully downed by air defense systems. All missiles that entered Jordanian airspace were destroyed.
Jordanian Government Spokesperson and Minister of State for Communication Mohammed al-Momani stressed that the army is on full alert against any threat the country may face. Al-Momani called on all residents to follow the instructions of official authorities and to obtain information only from official sources.
Urgent warning from the US Embassy
The US Embassy in Amman announced that missiles, rockets, and unmanned aerial vehicles were detected in Jordanian airspace. The embassy issued an urgent warning for all US citizens in Jordan to immediately go to shelters and remain indoors.
Tensions escalate in the region
These developments came after the US launched airstrikes against Iran. The US military began bombing areas of Iran near the Strait of Hormuz.
In response, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed to have struck targets belonging to US military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain.
The Kuwaiti Armed Forces had earlier announced that three ballistic missiles, one cruise missile, and ten drones were detected and neutralized in the country's airspace, and that one person was injured. The Bahraini army also reported that Iranian-origin airstrikes were prevented.
