Following their NBA championship, the New York Knicks enjoyed a special celebration night on Jimmy Fallon's show. The broadcast turned into a show that brought together the team’s players and passionate Knicks fans watching the finals from the studio.
It was noted that Lin-Manuel Miranda, originally scheduled as a guest, was replaced and recorded his segment to be aired next week. Fallon expanded the guest list for the Knicks night to include the team’s players.
The opening began with a lighthearted tone. After a warm-up joke referencing "Spurs here," the studio buzzed, but the Roots’ performance of "Jungle Boogie" quickly changed the atmosphere.
The celebration in the studio was also felt across the city as the Empire State Building lit up in the Knicks’ blue and orange colors. During Fallon’s championship-centered monologue, the audience frequently laughed and cheered along.
Fallon humorously recounted New York’s long-awaited success in his monologue. He also made a reference to Trump and mentioned that the backstage was lively, especially with guests like Wu-Tang Clan present.
One surprise of the night was Spike Lee’s unannounced appearance on the show. Beach balls shaped like basketballs and blue-orange confetti were thrown to the audience.
Later, Fallon introduced the Knicks as "kings of comebacks" and "a team with history," calling them to the stage. The team entered the studio to applause, holding the trophy.
The first segment featured Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and head coach Mike Brown; the second segment included OG Anunoby, Josh Hart, and Mikal Bridges. In both groups, the audience frequently interrupted with chants of "MVP" and "Go Knicks."
Brunson said the championship has not yet fully sunk in. Towns noted that fan support played a big role in the games.
In the second segment, Fallon teased Anunoby’s usually calm demeanor, to which the player responded by saying he had just gotten a new phone, sparking laughter. Hart described Anunoby’s finishing move by saying, "I saw a man flying," and asked everyone to call him "champion."
Bridges recalled their old school connection by saying Hart was a tough character during their Villanova days. The three players, who studied and played together at Villanova, shared the stage during the show.
The Knicks’ appearance on the show was part of their celebration tour following their finals victory over the San Antonio Spurs. This championship, the club’s first in 53 years, sparked a huge wave of joy in New York.
The parade in Manhattan is planned for Thursday, June 18. Fallon joked that the event would start in the morning and last many hours.
The joint appearance of Wu-Tang Clan and the Knicks was also presented as a symbolic moment in the team’s championship journey. The group performed during halftime of the fourth game, a critical moment when the Knicks were setting the stage for their comeback.
The program will also be available to watch on Peacock the following day.
