The first official trailer for The Social Reckoning, written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, has been released. Jeremy Strong appears as Mark Zuckerberg in the film.
The production is based on Ben Mezrich’s 2009 book The Accidental Billionaires and follows a storyline similar to The Social Network. This time, the focus is on the disclosure process that shook Facebook’s internal workings and the Meta documents.
Frances Haugen and the Leaked Documents
In the film, Mikey Madison portrays Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen. The story depicts Haugen’s 2021 leak of Meta’s internal documents and how these documents revealed some of the platform’s most closely guarded secrets.
The film also features Haugen’s collaboration with journalist Jeff Horwitz, played by Jeremy Allen White.
Other Cast Members
The cast also includes Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, Billy Magnussen, and Bill Burr.
Sorkin’s Return to Cinema
This film marks Sorkin’s first feature-length directorial work since Being the Ricardos in 2021. Sorkin previously won the Adapted Screenplay Oscar in 2011 for The Social Network.
With this new film, the impact of Facebook’s transformation into a global company over the years is brought back into the cinematic spotlight.
Release Date
The film will be released in theaters by Sony on Friday, October 9. Jeremy Strong’s portrayal of Zuckerberg has drawn attention with the first trailer.
Early footage of the production was previously shown at CinemaCon, where it was noted that the depiction of Zuckerberg in the film is intense and composed.
