U.S. President Donald Trump spoke by phone with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang during the All-In Summit 2026, an artificial intelligence and innovation summit held in Los Angeles.
Huang put Trump's voice on speaker so people in the room could hear the conversation. Trump joked that Huang could produce advanced computer chips but had difficulty connecting him to the speaker.
He described data centers as the oil of the coming era
Trump called data centers “wonderful” and argued that they make people wealthy. Saying that data centers are the oil of the next 20 to 25 years, Trump said they represent a much greater development than the internet and artificial intelligence.
He rejected the view that artificial intelligence will take control
Addressing the threats that artificial intelligence could pose, Trump argued that robots and artificial intelligence would not take control. He also rejected assessments that the rest of the world would be taken over by artificial intelligence.
Trump claimed that those opposing the construction of data centers were supporting people who did not want this development to take place. Suggesting that this stance could originate in China, Trump said they would not allow it.
Huang said he agreed with Trump's assessment and likewise stated that they would not allow it. Trump also said that people should act cautiously and prudently regarding artificial intelligence.
Phone call included in podcast recording
Chamath Palihapitiya, one of the summit's co-moderators, described the conversation, which Huang recorded for a podcast at the time, as “surreal.”
