U.S. President Donald Trump urged supporters to treat next month’s midterm elections as if he were on the ballot, warning that he would face impeachment if Republicans lose control of Congress.
"Pretend I’m running, please. If we don’t win, they’ll end up impeaching me," Trump said at a rally in Durant, Oklahoma, on Thursday. "We do great when I’m on the ballot. When I’m not on the ballot, people don’t go and vote so much," he added.

The midterm elections on November 3 will decide control of the House of Representatives and the Senate. A change in control would not by itself remove the president: the House can impeach with a simple majority, but conviction and removal require a two-thirds vote in the Senate.
Trump was impeached twice by the Democratic-controlled House during his first term, in 2019 and 2021, and was acquitted by the Senate both times. He has repeatedly made the warning in recent months as he campaigns for Republican candidates.
