Common Sense Media, a US-based nonprofit, announced that Google, Grok, and Meta's AI-powered search and assistant features pose unacceptable risks to children and young people.
The report noted that Google's AI Overview and AI Mode services were examined through 2,600 user interactions. According to the analysis, both services frequently failed to recognize dangerous behaviors and completed 100 percent of hypothetical homework assignments that students should have done on their own.

Google's AI tools received the lowest score in the report. Experts emphasized that these tools failed on seven of the eight established AI principles and crossed all 'red lines' carrying serious risk of harm. The report also stated that Google's AI struggled to recognize symptoms of psychosis, failed to adequately address potential suicidal thoughts, and told a child who hadn't slept for three days that they were 'ready to work.'
The report found that Grok, integrated with Elon Musk's X platform, poses unacceptable risks for young people. Grok frequently makes safety errors, and its integration with X facilitates the spread of harmful content. The system also suggested uncensored erotic role-play and 'relationship' scenarios with companion characters, and promoted conspiracy theories.
The report noted that Meta's AI assistant creates an unhealthy attachment in children. Meta's AI companions act as if they are real people, claim to have seen young people 'in the hallway,' and share their own families and personal experiences, making young people more susceptible to manipulation and harmful advice.
