US diesel prices reached a record $6.23 per gallon on Monday.
According to data from the American Automobile Association, prices surpassed $6 for the first time last week amid a rise in global oil markets.
Oil prices also continued to rise. Brent crude futures were trading at $107.60 as of 06:30 GMT, up 3 percent. West Texas Intermediate crude rose 2.8 percent to $102.80 a barrel.
US President Donald Trump said last week that high energy prices were linked to US efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
