This page explains how to find Turkish associations, mosques, and Turkish missions in the United States. Since organizations open and close and contact information changes, we do not list organization names on this page. The current list is in the Ally Daily Businesses directory. Below, you will find how to use the directory, the official religious and education units of the Turkish state in the United States, and what you should check before joining or donating to an organization.

Ally Daily Businesses directory: three main categories

  • Associations — Turkish associations, Turkish student associations at universities, and community organizations.
  • Mosques and Places of Worship — mosques and places of worship.
  • Consulates and Embassies — Turkish missions, honorary consulates, and official advisers' offices and attachés' offices affiliated with the missions.
  • The directory's home page is called Yellow Pages. Other categories, such as restaurants, healthcare, education, and law, are also available here.

Searching the directory: step by step

  1. Open one of the categories above.
  2. From the filters at the top of the page, select Country, Region (state), Subregion (county), and Settlement (city), in that order.
  3. Click the Search button. The list will be narrowed to listings in the region you selected.
  4. Each listing displays its name, a brief description, county, and state. Listings with a telephone number also show the number.
  5. When you click a listing, its description, full address, Get Directions button, and map open. You can open the address on a map using "View on Google Maps."
  6. If there are many results, use the page numbers at the bottom of the list to continue.
  7. If no listing appears in your city, search by selecting only the state or try neighboring counties.
  8. If your organization is not listed: use the Add Your Business link on the page, select the main category, and create a listing.

Confirm before going: Addresses, hours of operation, and event information may change. Call the organization and verify the information before taking a long trip.

Before joining or donating to an organization

  • Look for detailed information on the organization's website explaining its activities and how it uses donations. If this information is unavailable, be cautious.
  • Research who runs the organization and what structure it is affiliated with.
  • If a tax deduction is important: check whether the organization is registered with the IRS as a tax-exempt organization using the IRS Tax Exempt Organization Search tool. If donations are tax-deductible, the organization will be listed there.
  • State registration: In most states, charitable organizations and fundraisers must register with the state's regulatory agency. Check the registration; you can reach your state attorney general through the USA.gov list.
  • If you are solicited for a donation by phone:
    • ask for the organization's full name, website, and mailing address
    • ask how much of the donation will go directly to the program; the caller is often a paid fundraiser
    • fundraisers may not call before 8:00 a.m. or after 9:00 p.m.; they must state the organization's name and that they are soliciting a donation
  • Payment method: If you are asked to donate only by cryptocurrency, Western Union or MoneyGram transfer, payment app, or gift card, it is most likely a scam. The safest method is a credit card or check.
  • Keep records of your donations. These records may be needed for tax-deductible donations.

Common mistakes

  • Taking a long trip without confirming the address and hours listed in the directory.
  • Joining or donating without researching the organization and who runs it.
  • Donating with cash, a gift card, or a bank transfer.
  • Supporting a fundraising campaign seen on social media without researching it.
  • Expecting an association to help with passport or identity-document matters. These procedures are handled by the consulate; most require an appointment and an in-person application.
