A former CIA official in the US was detained following a raid on his home in Virginia. According to investigation files, approximately $40 million worth of gold bars, $2 million in cash, and 35 luxury watches were seized at the residence. David J. Rush was charged with stealing public funds and defrauding the federal government. Prosecutorial documents alleged that Rush presented himself as a high-ranking Navy Reserve captain and Air Force test pilot. According to investigation records, the search was conducted on May 18. Authorities stated that Rush applied to the agency between November 2025 and March 2026 requesting foreign currency and a very large amount of gold bars, justifying these requests as business expenses. According to information provided by the FBI, Rush's home contained approximately 303 one-kilogram gold bars, $2 million in cash, and numerous luxury watches. It was reported that a significant portion of the seized watches were Rolex. The investigation also revealed that Rush's claims about his military background and education were not truthful. Files indicated that he was never a pilot, did not hold an FAA license, and worked as an information systems technician during his naval service. Documents stated that two universities reported Rush never enrolled and that he obtained $77,000 through false military leave claims. Rush is being held in federal custody, and the case has been brought before a grand jury.
