A Quinnipiac University survey in the United States found that the potential impact of artificial intelligence on humanity’s existence was a source of concern for a large majority of respondents. Seventy-three percent of the 1,202 people who took part in the survey said they were concerned about the issue.
Thirty-eight percent of respondents said they were “very concerned” about the threat artificial intelligence could pose to humanity, while 35% described themselves as “somewhat concerned.” The share of those who said they were not concerned stood at 25%, while 2% expressed no opinion.

The survey also found strong support for requiring companies to meet independent artificial intelligence safety standards. Eighty-six percent of respondents supported such a requirement, even if it slowed the development of artificial intelligence.

Trust in executives at artificial intelligence companies remained limited. Seventy-four percent of respondents said they had “very little” or “no” trust in these executives.
Fifty-three percent of respondents said they believed artificial intelligence would cause more harm than provide benefits in their daily lives.
