Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan accepted the government's resignation on the day the newly elected parliament held its first session. The acceptance was formalized by a presidential decree.
The Armenian Constitution stipulates that the government submit its resignation to the president on the first day of the National Assembly's session. It also requires the president to immediately appoint the candidate nominated by the parliamentary majority as prime minister after the new parliament's term begins.
As a result of this constitutional procedure, incumbent Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is expected to be reappointed as prime minister.
