Gagik Vanoyan, head of Armenia's State Protocol Service, has been dismissed after Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan introduced Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov as the president of Kazakhstan, Russia's RIA Novosti reported.
The slip came at a joint news conference with Japarov in Yerevan on Oct. 17. While saying he wanted to greet Japarov again, Pashinyan referred to him as the president of Kazakhstan.

No official reason was given for Vanoyan's dismissal. According to government sources cited in the report, the mistake was in a text prepared by the protocol service that Pashinyan read out, and the incident had caused surprise.
