Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits will rise 3.6% in 2027, the Social Security Administration announced on Oct. 14. The cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), the largest since 2023, affects about 76 million Americans. The 2026 adjustment was 2.8%.
According to SSA estimates, the average monthly benefit for a retired worker will rise by about $75, from $2,095 to $2,170. The increase takes effect with December benefits paid in January, while SSI recipients will see higher payments starting Dec. 31, 2026.

The adjustment is based on the consumer price index for urban wage earners and clerical workers (CPI-W). Beneficiaries, including Turkish Americans who receive Social Security, can see their new amount in their online my Social Security account from late November, and notices will be mailed starting in early December.
