Australia is taking the Telegram messaging platform to court for not removing terrorist-linked content. Australia’s eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant formally announced they will file a lawsuit in federal court.
Grant said, "We have accused Telegram of failing to detect, prevent and block pro-terror content." The commissioner maintained that the platform did not remove such content despite user reports.
Among this content were videos of the mosque attack in Christchurch, New Zealand, and a supermarket attack in the US. Inman Grant noted that these videos sometimes remained on the platform even three months later.
"It is more important than ever that platforms fulfill their responsibilities," Grant said, stressing that the lawsuit would remind them of this responsibility.
