Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla blamed the United States after repeated collapses of the country's power grid. In a statement on social media platform X, the minister argued that the problems are a direct result of the US embargo.
Rodríguez Parrilla said, "The outages in the National Electric System (SEN) are direct consequences of the United States' genocidal blockade against Cuba, especially the energy siege." The minister stated that this blockade not only hinders fuel imports but also prevents the procurement of necessary parts and equipment, cooperation with foreign experts, and access to international financing.
This statement came after a new nationwide power grid collapse in Cuba. In recent months, a series of major blackouts disrupted electricity supply across the island.
The US Embassy in Havana also issued a notice on Monday, urging American citizens in Cuba or planning to travel to prepare for widespread disruptions, including mobile phone and internet outages.
The embassy noted, "Cuba's electric grid is becoming increasingly unstable," and stated that the latest outage was the sixth total grid failure in 2026, with three occurring in July alone.
