Mason Manta Rays swimmer Dana Fairbanks has verbally committed to the University of Minnesota and joined the Gophers women's team for the 2026 roster.
Fairbanks expressed excitement about continuing her academic and athletic career at Minnesota. She thanked her family, friends, Mason Manta Rays, and her coaches and teammates in Mason, while also expressing gratitude to the Minnesota coaching staff for this opportunity.
Two Final Placements in High School Career
Coming from Mason, Ohio, and representing Mason High School, Fairbanks placed in the top three in both of her individual events at the OHSAA Division I State Championships in her final season.
She finished second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:59.85 and third in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:03.82. The 200 individual medley time marked her personal best.
Her 4:59.85 in the 500 freestyle was about four and a half seconds slower than her personal best of 4:55.24, which she set at the Speedo Winter Junior Championships held in December.
Contributions in Relays
Fairbanks also made significant contributions in relay events. She swam a 51.49 split on the second leg of the 400 freestyle relay for Mason.
In the 200 medley relay, she posted a 26.13 split on the first leg, helping the team secure fifth place.
Mid-Distance Depth for Minnesota
Fairbanks has a strong profile in mid-distance events, with a best time of 4:16.37 in the 400 individual medley. She also holds career bests of 1:51.14 in the 200 freestyle, 1:58.71 in the 200 backstroke, and 2:02.31 in the 200 butterfly.
The Minnesota women's team finished sixth in the most recent Big Ten Championship. Based on Fairbanks' best times, she would rank approximately 23rd in the 400 individual medley, tied for 23rd in the 200 backstroke, and 37th in the 500 freestyle at the 2026 Big Ten level.
Fairbanks joins Minnesota's incoming class alongside Mia Thomas, Faith Lamah, Claire Conklin, Emmy Meyer, and Sara Reppucci.
