Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi stated that they are closer than ever to finalizing the ongoing memorandum of understanding. The announcement came just hours after US President Donald Trump called the leaked peace terms "unrealistic."
In a post on X, Arakchi said they are awaiting the finalization of the agreement text. He also warned media outlets against speculation about the content and said details would be shared with the public at the appropriate time.
The US-based news agency AP, citing three regional officials, reported that Washington and Tehran are close to signing an agreement aimed at ending the war. The report also mentioned a senior US official saying the draft includes provisions for the removal and destruction of Iran's nuclear materials.
While expectations have grown recently that the two sides are very close to a compromise, some issues and tensions reportedly remain in the talks. Nevertheless, Arakchi's recent remarks indicate the negotiation process is at a critical juncture.
The latest developments have raised questions about the scope of a possible agreement between Washington and Tehran and which provisions the parties have agreed upon. Since no official details have been shared, the final version of the text and the conditions for implementation remain uncertain.
