Race officials requested respect for the privacy of everyone affected by this event. They also thanked emergency teams, first responders, official authorities, and volunteers for their efforts.
It was noted that the Finke Desert Race continued to provide support both at the two ends of the course and throughout the event.
On the first day of the race, leadership standings were established in the motorcycle and off-road vehicle categories. In the Extreme 4WD category, Travis Robinson finished the day at the top, leading by 9 minutes and 23 seconds over Boston Morgan-Horan, the Extreme 2WD leader.
