President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered messages on the Cyprus issue and security in the Black Sea during his address to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Erdoğan said the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot people should be recognized and called for an end to what he described as the “inhumane isolation” imposed on them.
“The sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot people must be recognized, and the inhumane isolation they have been subjected to must now come to an end,” Erdoğan said.
Addressing the international community directly, Erdoğan added, “I invite the international community to recognize the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and establish political, diplomatic and economic relations with this state.”
Erdoğan Calls for Security in the Black Sea
Erdoğan also addressed developments in the Black Sea, saying Türkiye continues its contacts with the parties to restore maritime security, ensure food security and prevent the war from spreading to a wider region.
Referring to recent attacks on commercial vessels in the Black Sea, Erdoğan stressed that such attacks are unacceptable regardless of who carries them out.
The Turkish president said Türkiye would continue its diplomatic efforts to strengthen security in the Black Sea and prevent conflicts from spreading further across the region.
