President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered messages on the future of the international system, Gaza, Palestine, Lebanon, Africa and global economic inequality during his address to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Erdoğan said trust in the United Nations must be restored, arguing that this can only happen when people across different regions of the world are able to live with security, freedom and hope for the future.
Referring to Gaza, Erdoğan said children should be able to live in safety and look up at the sky to see kites flying freely instead of warplanes, UAVs and armed drones.
He also said children in Lebanon should no longer wake up to the sound of bombs in the middle of the night. Erdoğan called for a world in which workers in Asia are not exploited and people in Africa can look to their futures with the same sense of security and hope as citizens of the world’s most prosperous countries.
Erdoğan said confidence in the United Nations could only be restored by building an international order capable of delivering these conditions.
Erdoğan Reiterates Call for Independent Palestinian State
Turning to the Palestinian issue, Erdoğan reiterated Türkiye’s position in support of a two-state solution. He called for the establishment of an independent, sovereign and territorially contiguous Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Erdoğan expressed hope that the Palestinian people would achieve a free and sovereign state, while reaffirming Türkiye’s continued support for the Palestinian cause.
