President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered strong messages on Europe’s security architecture and the structure of the United Nations Security Council during his address to the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
Highlighting Türkiye’s strategic role in European security, Erdoğan said, “I say this clearly: It is not possible for a Europe that excludes Türkiye from its security architecture to become stronger and safer.”
The Turkish president emphasized Türkiye’s importance for regional security and stability, arguing that the country cannot be left outside Europe’s future security framework.
Erdoğan also addressed the current structure of the United Nations, once again renewing his long-standing call for reform of the UN Security Council.
Erdoğan: “The World Is Bigger Than Five”
Erdoğan said the UN Security Council must be reformed in line with the principle that “The world is bigger than five.”
His remarks reiterated Türkiye’s long-standing criticism of a system centered on the five permanent members of the Security Council and their veto powers.
Erdoğan called for a more inclusive and representative international system, bringing Türkiye’s demand for UN reform before world leaders at the General Assembly.
