Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee released a staff report of more than 50 pages on Monday, eight days before the midterm elections, calling for an independent special counsel to investigate President Donald Trump, Jeffrey Epstein's co-conspirators and what they described as a Justice Department cover-up.
The unsigned report, written by Democratic committee staff, alleges that Trump was "an active participant in Jeffrey Epstein's abuse of young women in the mid-to-late 1990s." It includes at least one new allegation, based on a woman's conversations with committee staff, and repeats several longstanding, unproven claims. It also compares Trump's public statements about Epstein with emails, deposition transcripts and other documents, pointing to what it calls inconsistencies about what he knew of Epstein's crimes.

The report alleges that Attorney General Todd Blanche "may have engaged in criminal obstruction of justice" and that his meeting with Ghislaine Maxwell "potentially constituted witness tampering." It also calls for Congress to receive the complete Epstein files required by law. "The women who survived Epstein deserve to be heard," said Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, the committee's top Democrat.
White House spokesperson Lauren Bis said "none of these allegations are true," calling the report "nothing more than a desperate attempt by crazed Democrats to distract Americans" and saying Trump "has been fully exonerated of anything related to Epstein." The Justice Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
