U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are moving toward a sweeping restriction on vehicle stops nationwide. Federal sources reported that the agency has instructed its agents to immediately halt the vast majority of such operations.
The decision represents a significant shift in ICE's operational approach. Traffic stops have long been a key tool in the agency's efforts to enforce immigration laws.
A federal source speaking to Fox News explained that under the new policy, vehicle stops will only continue for the highest-priority targets with serious or violent criminal histories.
The policy change comes after two separate fatal shootings involving ICE officers in Maine and Texas last week. The office of Senator Angus King confirmed that the person shot in the Maine incident was not a target with an arrest warrant.
