The Fourth of July Independence Day celebrations in Washington, D.C. were cut short due to an expected severe storm.

Participants gathered at the National Mall were evacuated from the area, accompanied by Secret Service and National Guard personnel. Officials warned attendees to seek shelter in nearby buildings.

The 'Salute to America' air shows on the event program were also canceled due to the storm threat.

U.S. President Donald Trump, however, announced on his social media account that he would deliver his planned speech despite the weather conditions.

"Storms bring luck to every situation, and they make things a little more exciting. We'll wait, whether it's 2:00 a.m. or an hour later, it doesn't matter. It looks like it will pass, it always does. No matter what, I'll be there."
Trump said, "I will not let the rain stop our 250th anniversary celebrations."
President Trump was expected to speak around 10:00 p.m. local time.
