Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, described the US attacks on Iran as war crimes and referred the matter to the UN Security Council and Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. In his letter, Iravani stressed that these actions in July violated international law.
The letter listed areas allegedly targeted by the US between July 8-16, including Bandar Abbas, Bushehr, Ahvaz, Chabahar, Konarak, Jask, Sirik, Iranshahr, Abu Musa Island, and Greater Tunb Island, as well as the cities of Shiraz, Khorramabad, Semnan, Urmia, and Hamedan. It stated that the attacks caused significant damage to critical infrastructure such as ports, transportation and communication networks, logistics centers, and radar facilities.
Civilian casualties and targets
Iran's UN Ambassador reported that more than 40 people were killed and hundreds injured in the latest wave of attacks. Among the dead were civilians, firefighters, environmental rangers, and fishermen.
In his letter, Iravani highlighted several incidents. These included the death of a firefighter responding to the attack on Iranshahr Airport on July 8, a ranger losing three family members in an attack on a ranger station on July 14, and seven soldiers killed in a missile strike on a military garrison dormitory on July 15.
It was also claimed that the Shahid Baghaei Children's Cancer Hospital in Ahvaz was damaged by US airstrikes and evacuated. Iravani described this attack as 'a cowardly act targeting the most innocent and vulnerable people and a war crime.' Attacks on civilian infrastructure such as a wheat silo in Hoveyzeh, a mineral water plant in Dehloran, and a maritime control tower in Chabahar were also condemned.
Reference to Trump's statements
The Iranian Ambassador also raised US President Donald Trump's threat to strike Iran's bridges and power plants, as well as his televised remarks about bombing the country's nuclear facilities. Citing Trump's words, 'If it weren't for me or Bibi... If I hadn't hit them with a nuclear weapon, they would have had a nuclear weapon in two weeks,' Iravani argued that these statements showed contempt for international law.
Amir Saeid Iravani called on the UN Security Council to take urgent measures to stop the US's aggressive actions and ensure accountability for all grave violations. He stated that Iran would continue to exercise all its rights under international law to protect its sovereignty and people as long as the UN fails to fulfill its duty.
