European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde described the ceasefire agreement reached with Iran as good news. She emphasized that the verification of the agreement and the steps to be taken in the coming days to reopen the Strait of Hormuz are particularly important.
In an interview with France Culture radio, Lagarde said, "If this news is confirmed by further developments and a memorandum of understanding is signed, it is good news. We would welcome it."
Lagarde also stressed that the process is not yet complete. She noted that Iran’s uranium enrichment issue still needs to be discussed, agreed upon, and finalized in a possible deal.
US and Iranian officials announced a preliminary agreement to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. This development led to a drop in oil prices while leaving the future of Tehran’s nuclear program to subsequent negotiations.
