The government led by Giorgia Meloni reached 1,413 days in office, becoming the longest-serving government in the history of the Italian Republic. Meloni also became the longest-serving prime minister of the republic’s postwar period.
Meloni took office on October 22, 2022. The previous record belonged to Silvio Berlusconi’s second government, which served for 1,412 days between June 11, 2001, and April 23, 2005.
Celebration planned in Bari
The new record will be celebrated at an event on Friday in Bari, a port city in southern Italy. Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend.
Security measures are expected to be raised to the highest level because of concerns about possible protests.

Meloni highlights stability
Meloni’s Brothers of Italy party released a celebratory video featuring footage from the prime minister’s nearly four-year tenure. The video included the slogan, “The most stable government, the strongest Italy.”
In a post on X, Meloni said she welcomed the record. She said stability was not merely a record to take pride in, but a condition that enabled the country to plan, make decisions, fulfill its commitments and earn respect.
