A poll published eight days before Israel's Oct. 27 parliamentary election showed former military chief Gadi Eisenkot widening his lead over Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Asked who is better suited to lead the government, 45% chose Eisenkot and 33% Netanyahu, a 12-point gap, up from 10 points in the previous poll.
Eisenkot's Yashar party is projected to become the largest in the 120-seat Knesset with 24 seats, ahead of Netanyahu's Likud with 21. Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett's party is projected at 14 seats, Yair Golan's Democrats and the Arab-led joint list at nine each, and Yisrael Beiteinu, Shas and Itamar Ben-Gvir's Jewish Power at eight each.

The poll gives Jewish parties opposed to Netanyahu 55 seats and his governing coalition 51. Including the 14 seats projected for the two Arab parties, parties outside Netanyahu's bloc would hold 69 seats.
