Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the company’s plan to acquire Hugging Face for $12.93 billion aims to expand access to artificial intelligence for developers and institutions worldwide. Huang said the transaction would increase the platform’s scale and strengthen its infrastructure.
Open and independent structure to be preserved
Hugging Face will continue to operate as an independent and open platform within the open artificial intelligence ecosystem. Developers will retain the freedom to choose models and frameworks, as well as cloud services and computing platforms.
Using Nvidia’s computing infrastructure to develop on Hugging Face will not be mandatory. The platform will continue to support open-source and open-weight models, multicloud systems and different accelerator technologies.
More than 18 million users on the platform
Hugging Face has more than 18 million developers, researchers and content creators. The platform’s content includes more than 3 million models, 500,000 datasets and 1 million applications.
More than 200,000 companies use the Hugging Face platform to explore, evaluate, customize and deploy artificial intelligence.
Capacity to increase with Nvidia infrastructure
Huang said Nvidia’s infrastructure, engineering capacity and global reach would enhance Hugging Face’s capabilities in reliability, security, model evaluation, inference and deployment. He emphasized that the open artificial intelligence ecosystem would be preserved.
In a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Nvidia said the acquisition of Hugging Face is expected to close in the first half of 2027.
