An off-duty New York Police Department (NYPD) detective was stabbed and slashed seven times and robbed of his chain in the Bronx on Friday afternoon, and police are searching for two suspects who fled on a motorized e-bike.
According to the NYPD, the attack happened at around 1:45 p.m. on Oct. 2 near East 206th Street and Rochambeau Avenue in the Norwood section of the Bronx, within the confines of the 52nd Precinct. Police said the two suspects approached the 33-year-old detective on a motorized e-bike, stabbed and slashed him seven times and forcibly took a chain from his neck, then rode away heading south on Rochambeau Avenue.

The detective, who works out of the 44th Precinct, was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where he remains in stable condition. Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch visited him at the hospital. "He is thankfully in stable condition, and I am hoping for his quick and complete recovery," Mamdani said in a statement. "I am confident that the NYPD will identify and apprehend the suspects and that the people responsible will be held to account."

Police release images of the suspects
Images provided by the NYPD show the two men riding the motorized bike on a sidewalk. The operator wore a blue sweatshirt and black pants, while the second man, riding behind him, was bare-chested and wearing black pants.

The Detectives' Endowment Association (DEA) said it stands firmly by the detective. "The perpetrators may think they got away, but they didn't count on the full force of NYPD detectives searching for them. There's nowhere to run and nowhere to hide," DEA President Scott Munro said. Anyone with information is asked to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish. All calls are confidential.
