In the U.S. state of New Jersey, immigrant rights advocates gathered in front of the newly opened detention center of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency to protest detention practices. Protesters called for the release of undocumented immigrants and the opening of borders to immigrants. Police intervention occurred during the protest. Among the participants were religious leaders, some of whom stated that the practices at the detention center violated human rights. Protesters expressed their opposition to the poor conditions in which immigrants were held. Authorities, however, claimed that the detainees were in good conditions. Immigrant rights advocates stated that they will continue to fight for the protection of rights through such protests.
