Andrew and Tristan Tate appeared in a federal court in Miami as part of UK extradition proceedings. British authorities requested their extradition on charges of rape and human trafficking.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Lauren Louis stated in court that the brothers are being held under a provisional arrest warrant from the UK and that the extradition process is currently underway. The next hearing was adjourned to July 27. Their attorney, Joseph McBride, said he did not expect his clients to be released.
McBride said there would be a series of hearings and maintained his clients' innocence. The Tate brothers appeared in court in grey prison uniforms and handcuffs.
British authorities filed 38 additional charges involving four new victims. According to the indictment, Andrew Tate, 39, faces seven new rape charges along with human trafficking for sexual exploitation and possession of indecent images of children. Tristan Tate, 38, is charged with two counts of rape and human trafficking for sexual exploitation.
The total number of charges has risen to 59; the alleged incidents took place between July 2010 and August 2017.
Malcolm McHaffie, Head of the Special Crime Division of the UK Crown Prosecution Service, said: "We have decided to charge Andrew and Tristan Tate with rape, human trafficking for sexual exploitation, and offenses related to indecent images of children."
Police Chief Karena Thomas said: "I want to make it clear that there is no place in our society for male violence against women and girls. We will continue to work tirelessly to support victims and investigate all reports made to us."
The Tate brothers, who hold dual US and UK citizenship, deny all charges. A separate investigation has also been underway in Romania since December 2022.
Andrew Tate, who has a large online following for his views on masculinity and wealth, has previously described himself as a "misogynist." He is also facing a civil lawsuit in the UK over allegations of physical and sexual abuse brought by four women. Tate denies these allegations as well; his lawyers maintain that all sexual activity was consensual.
