The Mary Wallopers are back with their new album "Paddywhackery". The band also shared the album's lead track "Crowns Of England" with listeners.
It was announced that the album will be released on September 18. This work will be the third studio album of the Dundalk-origin band.
First message from the new song
The band drew attention with the first song released to promote the new album, "Crowns Of England". The song revolves around the feeling of being foreign in England and the legacy of colonialism.
Charles Hendy said the song describes the feeling of being an outsider in England. Hendy mentioned that this also touches on the efforts of Irish people moving to London and distancing themselves from their identities, and that this sense of exclusion generally applies to immigrants or those moving from small towns to big cities.
Hendy also said he sees England as an old country in many ways. He cited examples such as the continuation of the monarchy, most pubs having the same name, and flags being everywhere.
The album title becomes a controversial reference
The name "Paddywhackery" also stands out as a response to criticisms directed at the band. Andrew and Charles Hendy explained that with this expression, they referred to approaches about being overly Irish.
The band said that Irishness has become more visible and popular in recent years, but sometimes this can turn into showiness. According to them, only singing serious songs reduces music to a single dimension.
The Hendy brothers stated that people are afraid of being mocked, whereas the band wanted to give an open response to this with the album. They said this is why they chose the album title.
Tour schedule announced
Following the new album, the band will embark on a long tour covering the United Kingdom and Ireland. The tour will start with a concert in Edinburgh on October 13.
The program includes stops in Newcastle, Cardiff, Brighton, Sheffield, Cambridge, Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham, Leeds, Birmingham, and London. The London concert will be held at the O2 Academy Brixton on October 30.
Later in the year, the band will perform at the 3Arena in Dublin on December 10 and the OVO Hydro in Glasgow on December 19. The Coral will also be the opening act at some concerts during the tour.
It was announced that tickets will go on sale starting at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 12. Before the tour schedule, the band will also perform at Kneecap’s big concert in Crystal Palace Park, London on June 27.
From their latest works to today
The Mary Wallopers’ latest single was "The Juice". The track was released in July 2025.
The band had previously shared a three-track EP titled "Home Boys Home". They also gave two New Year’s concerts in Ireland last year and held a five-night series at the Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow.
Andrew Hendy had said in 2024 that folk music needed a more rebellious and lively vein again. The new album and tour announcement show that the band continues on this path.
