Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) held separate meetings at UN headquarters in New York with Rosemary DiCarlo, Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, and Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly.
“An agreement can only be based on the sovereign equality and equal international status of the two states,” Ertuğruloğlu told DiCarlo, briefing her in detail on the Cyprus policy pursued jointly with “motherland Türkiye.”

In his meeting with Lacroix, Ertuğruloğlu discussed the activities of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) in the TRNC and raised Greek Cypriot violations in the buffer zone, saying he expects the force to act more effectively to prevent them. After completing his contacts in New York, Ertuğruloğlu traveled to Washington, where he is expected to meet officials, speak at think tanks and brief the press.
