U.S. President Donald Trump met with leading technology executives at the White House on Tuesday to discuss the safety and future of artificial intelligence.
Leading figures from the technology industry attended
The meeting was attended by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. Elon Musk, the head of Tesla and SpaceX, and OpenAI President Greg Brockman also took part in the meeting, along with officials from other technology companies.

Trump calls for safer artificial intelligence
Speaking after the meeting, Trump described it as good and productive. Trump said he wanted AI efforts to create a safer environment and called the executives who attended the meeting “the brightest people in the world.”

Trump claimed that Chinese President Xi Jinping also agreed with this view regarding technology executives.
Legal change for the term “superintelligence”
Arguing that the United States has a major advantage in AI and will preserve it, Trump announced that he would sign a legal change concerning the naming of the technology. Trump pointed to a regulation that would use the term “superintelligence” instead of artificial intelligence.

Trump also said that AI technology should regulate itself. He said institutions such as the Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation automatically monitor the technology.
